The Magwa Upliftment Project
After eighteen months of visiting the village on a consistent basis, Joint Ventures observed that the basic needs of the village are:
Physiological Needs
- Drinking water
- Electricity: Solar panels for light
- Healthier balanced diet: Fruit trees
- Vegetable variety
- Methane gas toilets: sanitation and health
- Homemade energy free cooling boxes (refrigeration)
- Spring protection (drinking water)
Developmental needs:
- Knowledge of Permaculture farming
- Equipment and training of raw earth technology building
- Educational requirements:
· Classroom for Grade R (pre-school class)
· Water tank for capturing rainwater for drinking at school
· Medicinal garden with fruit, vegetables and herbs for children
Magwa Volunteers aims to create jobs for the local community in:
- Trained hiking/ trail guides
- Manufacturing leather products in workshops
- Bird watcher guides
- Cooking for visiting tourists on overnight stays
- Woodwork and carpentry for making tables and chairs for school, village and other villages/schools in neighboring villages
- Permaculture gardeners to produce and maintain new fruit for school, village and sales to nearby town
- Arts and crafts
